Throughout my time with Anytime Fitness so far, I have found room for improvement within a lot of the company, I do think the issues I am finding are specific to Bandon Fitness though. For starters, the turnover rate is extremely high. For example, I have been running this club for 2 or 3 weeks, and I am one of 2 general managers left in the district. 3 of the 5 quit within a two week period. And the other one that has lasted as long as me has only been with the company since June, so not much longer than I. I think the high turnover rate has to do with being overworked and under paid. In just about any other facility that isn’t owned by Bandon Fitness, all of the work that a general manger is responsible for will be split up between 3 people. There is a specific cleaning person, an assistant manger of some sort to handle delinquency and member retention. That leaves prospecting and marketing to the manager, which would help with the stress levels of the job. The managers are also underpaid for the amount of work we do on a daily basis. If the money was better, the stress might be more worth it. But neither of those are happening, or can be seen happening in the near future so I don’t see the turnover rate decreasing at all.
The communication from upper management to lower level management is also not great. I find myself not knowing answers to questions from members that are above my head, and every time I ask about it, no one can really give me an answer. As the main form of communication between members and upper management, it’s frustrating.
