During this time, I am also in a business strategies in sports class. One thing that has stuck out to me from this class that I can take into my mentorship is the event planning. We practiced planning an event of our choosing, I chose a 5K. It was fun to create a flyer for an event like this and it helped give me practice so I have a little bit of experience to take into my mentorship. We were just told that we get to choose between a day of marketing with the whole district in our town or an event for the community with the help of the whole district, and I am considering a 5K, especially now that I have some experience in planning. I am also in quantitative business methods, where I have learned a lot about human resources, which has been beneficial for me in my new management position. It has helped me with understanding of what is right and what is wrong, and what I do have say over as a manager. It helps with ethical decisions, and I have also found it helps with being more ethical with customer service. I have had a couple pretty nasty calls with members who no longer want to pay their bills or don’t want to be a member but are still within their agreement term. Being more ethical and human with them about what is going on can help us get to the root of the problem and help me figure out the best way I can help them that is still within policy, rather than just saying something along the lines of “oh sorry can’t help you. You have to keep giving money even if you’re not using the facility”. My goal is to help people work towards the goals they have set for themselves and get the most out of their experience with Anytime Fitness, rather than just being money hungry.
